Bangladesh is a densely populated country with extensive water bodies in the form of lakes, ponds, rivers, and estuaries, covering millions of hectares.<\/p>\n

The shrimp aquaculture in Bangladesh supports coastal fishing industrial development. In 2016-17, it was reported that over 40,000 tonnes of shrimp were exported to the international market and contributed to the economy of the country.<\/p>\n

However, it is essential to note that shrimp aquaculture productivity is very low compared to other countries in the world, and it is facing many challenges related to sustainable aquaculture.<\/p>\n

Probiotics in recent times have emerged as a promising, eco-friendly alternative to antibiotics to manage shrimp diseases in aquaculture. It has captured the attention of the scientific community, and the positive results are very encouraging.<\/p>\n

Probiotics, in general terms, can be defined as living beneficial microorganisms, which when supplied in sufficient quantity, provides health benefits to the host.<\/p>\n

In aquaculture, probiotics are capable of modifying the microbial community in the host, which leads to major benefits like better feed use, improved nutritional value, and good immunity response.<\/p>\n

It is also well known for improving water quality. One of the major highlights of probiotics is that they are biological agents that are non-toxic and cause no adverse side effects to other aquatic beings.<\/p>\n
